In My Kitchen

In my kitchen this month is a super active batch of Spelt Sourdough Starter.
I made a delicious loaf yesterday using this starter.
I purchased Annabel Langbein's new book Simple Pleasures and made these Brownies with a secret ingredient that makes they beautiful and moist "dates"!
A new heavy Mortar and Pestle I purchased from a local kitchen shop that was on special.
A healthy mix of grass fed beef, vegies, kale cooking away in my Emile Henry Tajine.
Lastly a beautiful pottery dish that I purchased on a recent visit to the little town of Maleny tucked away in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland.

I hope you have enjoyed a glimpse into my kitchen for November.  Why not visit Celia at who gives us the inspiration for this series of posts, there you will find many others who give a glimpse into their kitchens every month.

Enjoy your weekend.

Shirley :)

  1. Shirley, I love all the things in your kitchen, especially the EH tagine and the Annabel Langbein cookbook, both of which are in my kitchen too! Is it just the photo, or is your mortar a really wide one? I've been looking for a wide shallow one, but have yet to find it! Thanks for sharing your kitchen with us! :)

PS. Your sourdough starter looks fabulous!

  2. Thanks Celia, though I think my IMK posts are very amateur compared to most of the great people that join in every month. Yes the Mortar & Pestle is quite large, well compared to my other one.

  3. Hi Shirley-
I love that dish- it is a work of art- I'd admire anything you had resting in it.
Your starter is very active- mine is sitting in the fridge with a layer of yellow on top- I was gone for a while and it went into vacation mode!
I love dates- and brownies- sounds like a great combination.
Thanks for sharing- I enjoyed your kitchen~

  4. Thanks for the comments Heidiannie, I agree it is a beautiful dish an one off for sure, some people are so talented in creating individual items.

  5. Love your little dish it looks like someone had a whale of a time with a paintbrush

  6. Hi Shirley Love that dish.
